Call for Proposals:CrownCom 2010 Special Sessions
Prospective Organizers are invited to submit proposals for Special Sessions at CROWNCOM 2010. The proposals are due through the ASSYST system (http://assyst-online.org), by November 1, 2009.
Prospective Organizers can apply for special sessions of two different sizes, namely a five-to-six papers special session, or an eight-to-ten one. Each Special Session will be a two-hour long oral session with minimum of five speakers in the first case, and two consecutive two-hour long oral sessions with a minimum of eight speakers in the second case. Special Sessions will be intermixed with regular sessions during the conference.
Two Special Session categories are envisioned: Scientific Special Sessions, and Technical Special Sessions. The two categories differ in the kind of subject the sessions will cover, in the review process papers or presentations undergo, and on how they are handled by organizers, as detailed later in this call for proposals. Each Scientific Special Sessions presentation is required to come with a full paper, that will be included in the conference proceedings.
Technical Special Sessions presentations, possibly with some sort of supporting material, will be made available through the conference website.
General Rules
The proposals for both types of special sessions should include:
-
Names and short CVs of the organizers, Title of the Special Session
-
Summary of the topic
-
Planned invited speakers
-
Planned length
Proposals should be sumbmitted through the CrownCom 2010 conference website, in .pdf format.
To submit a proposal, a prospective organizer will go to the following steps:
-
Go to ASSYST web site http://assyst-online.org, and register to the site if not already registered.
-
Select CrownCom 2010 among the conferences to which it is possible to submit a paper.
-
Select the “CROWNCOM 2010: Special Sessions Proposals” track and follow the steps required to submit a regular paper.
-
When asked, upload the .pdf file of the proposal.
Each proposal, excluding a maximum 4-page CVs of the organizers, should not exceed 10000 characters.
Invited speakers as well as organizers and attendees will be required to register for the conference.
Scientific Special Sessions
For a Scientific Special Session (SSS) proposal to be considered for inclusion at CROWNCOM 2010, its proposed area topic needs to be from a new and emerging area in cognitive radio, otherwise not covered by the regular sessions and/or the call for papers. For example, organizers may target a specific aspect of the cognitive radio cycle, either from the perspective of a single terminal, or from the network perspective, as well as system-wide issues. Proposal of Scientific Special Sessions focusing on the use of specific mathematical tools or theories to approach any of the open problems in the area of research on cognitive radio networks is encouraged.
The topic should be timely and of significant importance to the audience, and the speakers need to convey compelling information about the topic. Proposals will be judged by the degree to which they will bring together key researchers in the state-of-the-art topic, introduce the topic to the larger community of people doing research in Cognitive Radio, further develop the area of the topic, and help to establish a larger research community around the area of the topic.
There can be up to two Organizers per Special Session. The Organizer's role is to invite (and ensure to have) the required number of speakers, arrange the review process within the group of invited authors using the designated conference review system, process the reviews, and chair the session itself.
The deadline for paper submission to the organizers of the SSS will be decided by the organizers, however the whole process must be carried out so that they are able to submit, two weeks before the date of the acceptance of notification of regular papers, the list of selected papers for the special session to the Special Sessions chairs of the conference, with at least two independent reviews per paper. The final decision on paper acceptance is up to the TPC chair, in consultation with the SSS organizer(s).
It is possible that some invited papers may be rejected. However, this is expected to be a rare event given that the Organizer should have recruited only the strongest papers to the Special Session.
Papers of Scientific Special Sessions are required to be full papers. The following rules applying to regular papers and authors, hold for Special Sessions invited papers and speakers as well. In particular, each invited paper will go through an administrative review to confirm that:
-
The paper is written in English
-
The paper is in the proper format as defined by IEEE
-
The paper is readable
-
The paper satisfies the same maximum length and character size constraints of regular papers
Should a paper not meet any of the above requirements, it will incur rejection.
Papers of Scientific Special Sessions will be included in the conference proceedings, as Invited Papers.
Technical Special Sessions
A Technical Special Session (TSS) has the objective to collect presentations and produce results on a particular application, technical approach, or an otherwise specific theme related to cognitive radio technology.
The distinctive and required features of a Technical Special Session are its ability to bring new information and present innovative approaches in their chosen topic. The works presented in a technical special session must exhibit a high degree of synergy, and a coherent, coordinated effort to present the session topic.
Technical Special Sessions presentations need not come with a full paper submission. However, the organizers may evaluate the opportunity to include some sort of supporting material to the presentations. For example they could provide an overall summary of the Special Session topic in the form of a paper. Even single presentations may be supported by paper-like material, for example to include an extended description of the work presented, or extended results.
It is up to the organizers to decide about the desired support material for each presentation, or subsets of them. However, these choices and the desired inputs from presenters must be clearly stated in the proposal.
The organizers will be asked to provide a draft of all the presentations, and the selected supporting material, two weeks before the date of the acceptance of notification of regular papers. The final decision on presentations acceptance is up to the TPC chair, in consultation with the TSS organizer(s).
After the conference is over, upon request of Technical Special Session organizers, and conditioned on the explicit agreement of invited speakers, presentations and supporting material of each TSS will be made available through the conference website.
